Pause came into being after I have been living in my house for a year. This year July was a year. I waited a long time for my home, the home overlooking the veld and fynbos and where I could look far into the distance over the valley.
I live in Yzerfontein, a seaside village on the Cape West Coast, an hour's drive from Cape Town. The villages around us are, Darling more inland, and on the coastal route, Langebaan, Velddrif, Paternoster, Saldanha, Jacobsbaai, St Helena bay and more.
The West Coast is rugged with short bushy vegetation, severe weather sometimes, but when it's good, it's very good!
Back to Pause Studio Room.
I moved in a year ago, into house with a barren garden, only sand and rubble, inside the house, bare and rustic, no built in anything, cement floors, which I covered myself, with carpets I collected over the years, just as I wanted it. I am a grounded earth person, quite conservatively elegant but with the occasional crazy weird and eclectic style, and that is just how I like it.
With the help and assistance of dear, loyal and fine friends, who care from the bottom of their heart, I could take this clean canvass and turn it into a home which I can share with other people, who also appreciate the simple, peaceful and soul restoring, back to basics lifestyle Pause offers, without relinquishing any of the modern comforts we take so for granted.
Pause has the most beautiful veld and fynbos views, and the most brilliant sun rises and sunsets, the full moon also creates an atmosphere as if from another world, when it rises over the veld and covers it in a mysterious eerie glow. Fabulous my friend, fabulous I assure you.
I have created a self sustaining country garden with lots and lots of lavender and succulents, a joy to my soul. The lavender I bought and the rest was all gifted by neighbours and friends, I therefore have a garden with a pieces of many hearts, those of my friends.
My compost heap is surrounded by the most beautiful bright light pink geraniums another lovely friend gifted me. On my compost heap I dispose of all my vegetable and fruit off cuts, and sometimes veggies that I didn't use fast enough and has gone little off, now this delivers the most pleasant of surprises dear friends!
I had a vast crop of gem squash and copious amounts of tomatoes... I supplied many friends and neighbours, they were so taken up! I could supply them with real organically grown veggies and fruit, for as you now, a tomato is a fruit...
When I started my compost heap in my garden on some carboard, my highly esteemed friend from Gauteng said toe me, " No Miss K, you are not on the farm anymore, you live in the village, we use drums or whatever fancy else, I just looked at him and said, "Yes Mr. J." Mr. J, a very creative and enthusiastic chef, was one of the friends who benefitted and applauded my compost heap tomatoes, I would not have had tomatoes if I composted in a drum, would I now? I am looking forward to what might sprout in my simple archaic compost garden, this year.
Therefore, I invite and welcome visitors to book into my Studio Room at Pause, to rest, relax and recharge, there is no television, it would defeat the aim of Pause. Pause means to get back into the rhythm of your soul, and your mind to become relaxed and free from the world and pressures thereof. I advise walking, reading and talking to your partner, going for walks along the long stretches of beach Yzerfontein offers, or just siting in the garden to enjoy the view.

Greetings from the heart of my home to yours.
